Father and son meet in Tancheon.
Seongnam FC will face Pohang Steelers in the fourth round (Round of 16) of the 2023 Hana OneQ FA Cup at Tancheon Sports Complex at 7 p.m. on April 24. The winner of this match will face the winner of the match between Gimpo FC and Gangwon FC in the quarterfinals.
The match is being billed as a father-son clash. Pohang has Lee Ho-jae, the son of Seongnam coach Lee Ki-hyung. Lee doesn’t usually take questions about his son in press conferences, but after the last match against the Ansan Greeners, he smiled and talked about the conversation he had with his son. Lee Ho-jae also joked when asked about his father in an interview after the game against Gangwon. Their interviews have only increased the interest in this game.
Aside from the father-daughter tagline, the matchup between Seongnam and Pohang is an interesting one. Seongnam played in the K League 1 just last season, but they were relegated after reaching the final round in the lower division, so they haven’t faced Pohang since September 18 last year. This will be the first time the two teams have met in about eight months.
Seongnam will need to rotate their roster somewhat. Even though Pohang is a powerhouse in the K League 1, Seongnam traveled to Ansan last weekend and has a game against Anyang this weekend. Despite their FA Cup success, Seongnam’s primary goal is promotion, so rotation is inevitable if they want to stay on track with their league schedule and results 먹튀검증.
Seongnam’s recent form has been good. In four games this month, Seongnam has won one, drawn three, and scored seven goals and conceded four. In their last five games, they’ve won two, drawn three, scored nine and conceded five. Seongnam will be looking to carry this momentum into the FA Cup.
Pohang, on the other hand, has been a bit of a disappointment with their uneven form. After back-to-back losses to Incheon United and Jeju United, followed by a draw with Daegu FC, Pohang went three games without a win, and while they seemed to turn things around with a dramatic win over Daejeon Hana Citizens, they failed to capitalize on that momentum with a goalless draw against Gangwon.
Furthermore, Pohang will play another away game after traveling to Gangwon last Sunday. Next Monday, they are scheduled to play at home against Jeonbuk Hyundai. Considering the physical condition and fatigue of the players, the match against Seongnam is a must-win for rotation. However, Pohang is the better team in terms of objective strength as they have been consistently performing well in the K League 1. Pohang will be looking to win this match to boost their spirits ahead of the Jeonbuk match.
The last time these two teams met was in September last year. The match was played in Tancheon and resulted in a 1-1 draw.
