David Ortiz, a legendary player for Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox, has spoken out about receiving threats from hackers.
In a video posted to Instagram, 온라인바카라 Ortiz, a native of the Dominican Republic, said in Spanish that the hackers who hacked into his old cell phone are threatening to “sell” sensitive information unless he pays them.
According to the Boston Globe and others on Aug. 31, Ortiz said the hackers had access to his private life and were using it to extort money. Ortiz, 47, who described himself as a “victim of extortion threats,” said the phone in question was 15 years old and hadn’t been used in a long time.
Ortiz spoke of his fear that “something could be exposed if sensitive information was leaked. He added that authorities in the United States and the Dominican Republic are working to catch the hackers.
In the U.S., the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are keeping tabs on the suspects, while in the Dominican Republic, intelligence and police are keeping an eye on them, Ortiz said.
This is not the first time Ortiz has been targeted by criminals. In 2019, he was shot at a bar in the capital, Santo Domingo, and underwent six hours of surgery at a local hospital before being flown to Boston for further treatment, where he survived. Dominican Republic investigators concluded that the shooting was not aimed at Ortiz but at a person sitting at the same table as him, and that Ortiz was shot because the shooters confused him with their target.
Ortiz played 14 seasons for the Boston Red Sox and became one of the franchise’s most iconic players, helping the team win three World Series titles. Nicknamed “Big Papi” for his size, he batted .286 with 1,768 RBIs and 541 home runs in his career. He is considered one of the greatest clutch hitters of all time.
He is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame and currently serves as a major league analyst for Fox Sports.
