Genji defeated KT Rolster 2:1 in game one of the third day of the regular season of the 2023 LoL Champions Korea (LCK) Summer Split at Jonggak Roll Park on September 9. This was Genji’s first Summer match since MSI, and while they were swept in the first set by KT Rolster’s clean play, they bounced back to win both the second and third sets to get off to a great start.
Below is the full interview with Genji coaches Ko “Score” Dong-bin and Jeong “Chobi” Jung-hoon.
Q. How did it feel to win your first match of the summer?
Coach Ko Dong-bin: It was our first match of the summer. We were lethargic in the first set, but I’m glad we won the second and third sets in straight sets.
Jeong “Chobi” Hoon: The first match is a good opportunity to check our skills in practice, so it’s good to win.
Q. Do you have any regrets about the first set?
Coach Ko Dong-bin: The most regrettable thing was the first dragon and messenger fight, the design was good, but the battle was disappointing.
Q. In the later games, your snowball speed was incredible. I feel like it was enough to wash away any worries about MSI aftereffects.
Coach Ko Dong-bin: I was worried about that part a lot. However, the players practiced really hard after the MSI, and the scrimmages were good, so there were no worries. In today’s game, Chobi’s Gragas shined, but it’s not Gragas, but Chobi’s own form is very good.
Q. It’s early in the summer, how would you describe your current situation?
Chobi: We’re almost done organizing the mid-tier. I think we’ll have an advantage in lane battles, so I’m more excited than worried. We don’t have as much time as other teams, and I think we just need to adapt quickly.
Q. MSI and the current meta, do you think there is a big change?
Coach Ko Dong-bin: I don’t see any major changes, but the champion tiers are shifting a bit. The biggest difference is the presence of Yumi and Milio.
Q. Your next match is already against T1.
Coach Ko Dong-bin: T1 is a team that I always think is strong, so I have a feeling of anxiety. But this time, we’re confident and we’re going to win 메이저놀이터.
“Chobi”: Our practice matches and real matches are the same, and I don’t think we’ll have much trouble winning if we keep it up.
Q. How do you feel about being selected for the national team?
Chobi: Of course I’m happy. But there’s also pressure, so I’m trying to do well. The best thing is that it motivates me.
