Jose Batista (42), who even had a fistfight after playing a “bat flip” that was taboo in the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB), has officially retired.
Batista signed a one-day 메이저놀이터 contract with his former team, the Toronto Blue Jays, for his retirement ceremony on the 12th (Korea Standard Time).
Batista will say goodbye in front of home fans ahead of the 2023 MLB Chicago Cubs home game at Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on the 13th.
Batista was an outfielder who led Toronto’s golden age in the 2010s, batting .247, 344 home runs and 975 RBIs in 15 seasons from 2004 to 2018.
He made his name as a slugger in 2010 in Toronto, hitting 54 home runs in a season.
Batista is more famous for her ‘bat flip’ than her grades.
On October 15, 2015, he hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning when he faced the Texas Rangers 3-3 in Game 5 of the American League Division Series and threw the bat into the air while looking at the mound for a while.
The scene remained the most dramatic bat flip ceremony in MLB history, but was also criticized for not respecting the opposing team.
Texas, who remembered this scene, got even with Batista the following year.
Batista made a rough slide to second base in the eighth inning of an on – visit game against Texas on may 16, 2016, when Texas infielder lugned odore hit a strong punch at batista’s face.
Odor also attracted the attention of sports fans around the world with his sharp fists reminiscent of a boxer.
Batista played for Toronto until 2017, before moving to three teams in 2018 before failing to return to the MLB stage.
After being released from his last team, the Philadelphia Phillies, he continued his career in his home country, the Dominican Republic, and participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and appeared in the bronze medal match against South Korea.
Batista said through local media such as ESPN that day, “Everyone knows I’m retired, but I wanted to make it official.”
Odor, who hit a hard punch to Batista, was released last month after playing 59 games for the San Diego Padres this season.
