The Ferrum Club (par 72, 6,652 yards) in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, where the Korea Women’s Professional Golf (KLPGA) Tour Medihill and Hankook Ilbo Championships are held, was evaluated as “the course optimized for the competition” by players at the first tournament last year. In the 2021 season, it was also selected as the ‘best course’ by Korean Professional Golf (KPGA) Korean Tour players. 먹튀검증
The Ferrum Club, which aims for a course that can also hold PGA tournaments, has increased the course difficulty in 2020. KLPGA tour events such as the 2015 ISU Group Championship, the 2018 ADT Caps Championship, and the 2019 Kyochon Honey Ladies Open were held, but the KPGA Choi Kyung-Joo Invitational was held in 2020 and 2021.
At this time, the setting of the course was changed as the tournament host, Choi Gyeong-ju (53), requested, “Please set it up like a PGA Tour course.” In 2020, six riveted (straight wall) bunkers, called “jar bunkers,” were added to holes 11 and 13 of the west course, and in 2021, four bunkers were rebuilt on holes 5 and 6 of the east course.
Despite the evaluation that the course has become more difficult, the players held a record party in the first competition last year. Five hole-in-ones, a tie record in the history of the KLPGA tour, poured in. The 3rd hole (Han Jin-sun) and the 16th hole (Kim Jae-hee) in the first round, the 3rd hole in the second round (Kang Ye-rin), and the 8th hole in the fourth round (Kim Rian and Kwon Seo-yeon) came out. Also, inaugural winner Park Ji-young and Lee Da-yeon hit 8 under par 64 on the first day and tied the course record on the second day, respectively.
Ferrum Club has a longer rough and deeper bunker than other golf courses. Usually, the length of the rough of a golf course is about 40 mm, but the rough of the Ferrum Club rises to 80 to 120 mm (based on autumn). It’s still spring, so the grass hasn’t grown much, but it’s clear that the rough is more dangerous than other golf courses. There are also many bunkers with steep slopes, so it is difficult to come out at once.
Putting isn’t easy either. Cynthia Dye McGray, who designed the course, planted optical illusion traps throughout the hall. So does Green. There are many cases where the slope is different from what you see, so it is a confident putt, but the ball may roll differently than you think. Park Ji-young, the first champion, predicted, “The green is difficult, so the game will be decided by putting.”
