“It’s time to say goodbye to the game that gave me pride and a purpose in life,” Anthony announced on Twitter on Wednesday. After joining the Denver Nuggets in 2003, Anthony played 19 seasons with the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Anthony was named an All-Star 10 times in 19 seasons and led the league in scoring in 2012-13, averaging 28.7 points per game. He won three Olympic gold medals with Team USA. Anthony has 28,289 career points in the regular season, ranking ninth on the list.
Despite his colorful resume, Anthony has never won an NBA championship. His best finish was reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2009 while playing for Denver.
The NBA announced Anthony’s retirement, saying he “will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the near future.”
