Right-hander Chris Flexen (29), who played for the Doosan Bears in 2020, was treated out of power again after the trade.
The New York Mets announced on the 메이저놀이터순위 4th (Korea Standard Time) that they have agreed to trade Flexen and right-hander Trevor Gad (31) in exchange for giving up left-hander Jack Merkenheon (28) to the Seattle Mariners.
Flexen again passed the transfer nomination right after the trade. Flexen, who was previously waived shortly after the transfer nomination in Seattle, will go through the waivers process again. If he passes this, he can remain a minor leaguer for the Mets or become an FA.
Flexen signed a two-year, $4.75 million contract with Seattle in December 2020, including $8 million in besting options for the 2023 season.
In two years, he played 64 games for Seattle and 317 1/3 innings, recording 22 wins, 15 losses, and a 3.66 ERA, and received an annual salary of $8 million this season with the besting option applied.
However, he became a completely different pitcher after that. He pitched 42 innings in 17 games with a 7.71 ERA and 2.4 home runs, 4.1 walks, and 6.2 strikeouts per WHIP 1.857 9 innings. Strikeouts per nine innings are similar, but home runs and walks have increased.
In the end, he was excluded from Seattle’s recent season plan and left the team with a trade to dispose of his salary.
According to the “New York Post,” the trade was balanced on the condition that the Mets paid Flexen’s remaining annual salary of $4 million.
Gad pitched in a career-high 221 games for Seattle and five other teams, throwing 214 2/3 innings with a 4.70 ERA.
This season, he pitched 30 games and played 29 innings with a 4.03 ERA, 0.6 home runs, 2.5 walks, and 9.9 strikeouts per 1.4149 WHIP innings. He recorded seven holds and three blons in 10 saves. He pitched in 16 games for Triple-A Syracuse and pitched 302/3 innings with a 0.88 ERA.
Merkenheon is a rookie who made his big league debut this season. He allowed four runs in six innings in three appearances. He was recently transferred to the Mets and continued his season in Triple-A with the new team.
